LESLEY VENABLE'S BOUND RELIQUARIES....3-day Workshop, to be
scheduled in 2010

A remnant, a trace of the past, an esteemed object….all of these
words are held in the definition of a relic. For centuries shrines
have been built to honor and hold these objects for those that have
treasured them.
There is no need to journey far to find those items that touch our
hearts for we have been collecting them throughout our lives.
Vintage photographs, the cold metal of a skeleton key, aged
netting, old and rusted metals and the patina of antique hardware
all hold the mystery of the past.

Together we will create an altered book (8.5" x 8.5") complete with
reliquaries to hold your most precious relics. The pages and
alcoves housed within the covers will be enhanced using vintage
ephemera, fluid chalks, aged fabrics and fibers, inking, tape
transfers, stitching, old photos and more.
In preparation of this class you will find the relics you treasure,
those objects you wish to remember in a special way and over three
days we will share our visions and stories as we work.

$25.00 kit fee will include prepared board books, fabrics, vintage
ephemera, and more. Lunch and snacks included.
Workshop Price for 3-day class......$415
Limited to 10.

KC WILLIS STUDIO RETREATS PROUDLY PRESENTS:
A 3-DAY WORKSHOP BY ACCLAIMED ABSTRACT ARTIST....REBECCA
CROWELL
April 16-18, 2010
ABSTRACT PAINTING with COLD WAX and OILS
In this 3 day workshop, you will explore ways to build up abstract
oil paintings in layers, through the use of cold wax medium, tube
paint, pigment sticks and powdered pigments--and discover new ways
to create textures, lines, and color fields using a wide variety of
tools and techniques. Presentations and resources about abstraction
are also included in the workshop. Experience with oils is a
pre-requisite.
I have been developing these techniques for the past six years, and
I’m eager to share what I’ve learned. My intention for this
workshop is that you will leave fired up with fresh ideas for your
own unique direction and ongoing work.
Workshop Fee...$380

$150 Deposit required to hold your spot. Class limited to 10.
Registration ends March 15, 2010 or when class is filled.

"Rebecca reaffirmed my belief in the connection between the
intuitive process and the intellectual decision-making when
creating artwork." ~Barb Chappelle., Ontario, Canada
"Thanks to Rebecca's organizational skills, versatile teaching
style, clear and professional demos, interesting powerpoint
presentations, and the conversational give and take we had during
our hands-on time with the materials, I can honestly say this was
the best workshop I have ever attended. Thank you so
much!"--Phyllis Lasche, Bay Area, CA
“Rebecca ran the workshop with effortless ease, allowing the
participants plenty of time to be in touch with their own creative
process...everyone seemed to truly embrace the process-oriented
approach without the idea of "right and wrong". It was as if we
left our egos at the door. Very refreshing!"

JOANNA PIEROTTI Two Day SACRED POCKETS Workshop - May 11-12,
2010

Sacred Pockets "If you are like me, you hold a
devotion of admiration for the things that once belonged to a loved
one, be it a parent, sibling, child, etc. But you also may have
attachment to your own sentiments that have marked your journey in
life and deserve a place of commemoration; a place you create with
your own hands.
Archaeologist: A student who excavates physical remains of ancient
cultures or eras.

I am not an Archaeologist, but I am an Art-chaeologist when I
recreate the materials used in my art to look as if they were
removed from a recent excavation. Learn the special techniques I
use to create wonderful old patinas on new metals, and discover the
treatments that will make your treasured fabrics and lace look
ancient.
In the Sacred Pockets workshop we will take a box created just for
the class (kits available), create a special door to your treasure
trove using various materials and add found objects to create
interest. We will sew in our sacred pockets to house our "Devotions
of Admiration", either by machine or by hand, (no sewing experience
required).
So grab your shovels and join me in this sentimental expedition as
we honor our past and explore the creativity of our future."
